In this issue: - 2009 trip schedule - So how old is the Grand Canyon now?
Greetings from Canyon Ministries!
It is only the middle of June and Canyon Ministries has already taken over 180 people on rafting adventures in the Grand Canyon this summer. And we still have five trips to run this year and are already planning for 2009
2009 Trip Schedule: The schedule for 2009 has just been released (see left below) and you can make your reservations online through the Trip information & schedule page on our website. Next year, Canyon Ministries has one 7-day and four 3-day trips on the schedule and AiG is again offering three trips with Canyon Ministries. Check your calendar and sign up before they fill up!
Note: we also still have seats available this summer on the August 24th and August 29th 3-day trip.
Scholarship Fund*: Thanks to the contributions of many of you, we have also taken four people on trips through the scholarship program this year. One of them came as a believer in an “old” earth, but went home seriously reconsidering the age of the earth.
Next week, the first Christian Scholars’ Trip will launch from Lees Ferry on a 7-day trip aimed at "influencing the influencers." The trip is now fully funded and we have 23 professors representing seminaries and Bible colleges from five countries. Please pray for guests and staff on this trip, that everything said and done will bring glory to our Creator. If you would like to be part of the team praying for this trip, just reply to this message and place “Prayer Team” in the subject line. We are already planning for a similar trip in 2009. For more information or to get involved, see the Scholarship Information page on our website.
*Canyon Ministries’ scholarship fund falls under a separate non-profit (501(c)3) corporation. River trips are run through Canyon Ministries Tours, LLC. Testimony: Seeing the evidence yourself makes a difference! Two things that stood out for me on this trip were leading a mid-week service and seeing the lies of "science". Tom had asked me before the trip to be prepared to share about something relating to the flood. My focus was on Genesis 8:20 where Noah leaves the ark and builds an altar. God laid on my heart our need to build our own altar. Before the service I asked random individuals to bring a rock that could be stacked in the service. I began to look around at who I had asked and realized what God had done. God directed the choosing of one person from each family represented on our trip. As they stacked each rock, the colors revealed were similar to the layers of the canyon. Secondly was seeing the lies of "science". I was already a young earth believer before the trip, so seeing the evidence only reinforced my position. While in a side canyon called "Blacktail", we viewed what science calls "the greatest unconformity". This was almost more than I could personally handle since Tom had asked me to sing "How Great Thou Art". To be looking at creation rock spoken into existence by God, touching rock deposited by an act of God's righteous judgment while knowing that He loved me enough to send His Son to pay the price for my sins and spare me from His judgment of sin will be printed forever in my walk. Thank you, Canyon Ministries, for providing this experience. Pastor Rick, AZ
So how old is the Grand Canyon now? The answer to that obviously depends on who you ask, but in the secular community, it is getting to be much more of an issue recently. When I (Tom) started working in the Canyon almost 30 years ago, most secular geologists had the Canyon pegged at about 70 million years old. Over the years, that number slipped to a mere six million years, along with a dramatic change in the theories regarding how the Canyon was formed. About 2 months ago, the age of the Canyon jumped overnight to 35 million years. And now, it is back up to 55+ million years. For more information, see the National Geographic article and the article on Physorg.com’s website.
It is good to know that the truth of God’s Word and the history He gave us about the earth has not changed. The big change for creationists over the last 30 years regarding the Canyon is that more and more evidence has been found to uphold and support God’s Word. For more information on some of this evidence, see 8 Grand Canyon Evidences on our website.
Ministry needs: We have been blessed by the offer of a flat-bed trailer. This donation will allow us some flexibility in transporting boats to the river. Are you familiar with the website design software JOOLMA? Canyon Ministries is in need of someone to assist in the overall administration of our website, www.CanyonMinistries.com. This would not include routine updates, but administration of the site and its plug-ins. If you can help in this area, please call Tom at (602) 254-5798 |
