Greetings from Canyon Ministries!

Three groups have already experienced the Canyon this summer with Canyon Ministries in our 11th year providing Christ-centered trips through the Grand Canyon.  And we have seven more trips this summer!  The Lord has blessed us greatly and we are excited about the work He has laid out for us.

New Website! Canyon Ministries launched a new website last month and it is a beauty (even if we do say so ourselves)!  We hope you stop by www.canyonministries.com and check out our new look.  Not only is the look new, but it has many new features. We are especially excited about our new online store! There you can order an autographed copy of Grand Canyon, a Different View, check "real time" river trip availability, and even sign up and pay deposits for river trips online at the click of a button!

Also, you'll notice there are tabs at the top of the home page which will take you to the audio/video library and the latest updates on the ministry; you see real time weather at Grand Canyon South Rim; you can actually view the Canyon live courtesy of the National Park Service's webcam.  We have additional resources planned for the future, so keep checking back!

We want to thank an anonymous web designer for the countless hours he put in developing the site.  It is just GRAND!

2008 trip schedule:  The schedule for 2008 is out and you can make your reservations online through the new website.  Next year both ICR and AiG are offering trips and Creation Safaris will be back again as well.  Canyon Ministries has one 7-day and five 3-day trips on the schedule.  Check your calendar and sign up before they fill up!

Note: we also still have a few seats available on the August 17th 3-day trip this summer.

Christian Scholars' Trip:  2008 will see the launch of a trip primarily aimed at "influencing the influencers," a trip we are calling the "Christian Scholars' Trip."  In cooperation with AiG, scholarships will be provided for 24 professors and theologians from seminaries and Bible colleges from around the world.  Many of these professors either have not taken a position on the interpretation of the first eleven chapters of Genesis or have adopted an "old earth" view.  The trip will be accompanied by some of the top authorities on the historicity of Genesis, the scriptural and geologic evidence for a global flood, geology and the Grand Canyon. It is our prayer that we will provide an environment of teaching and open discussion that will result in strengthening their faith in the literal truth of Genesis.  This trip will need much prayer and financial support.  For more information or to get involved, see the Scholarship information page on our new website.

gcc - boat.jpgKids go boatin':  The graduating ninth grade class from Grace Community School, Sun Valley, CA (John MacArthur's church) went boatin' with Canyon Ministries for four days last month.  Between whitewater and hiking during the day (see pictures above) and singing praises to the Lord around the campfire at night, they all had a grand time.  And what a great bunch of kids!  With Christian kids like this, the future of this country will be in good hands. (But don't tell them I said that.)

Testimony:  The following is from one of our guests last summer.  She really put into practice what she learned on the trip.

My husband, Lance, was an avid supporter of Institute for Creation Research and could not wait until his two sons were old enough for our whole family to take the Grand Canyon rafting trip and learn more about the amazing evidence that God left of Himself for us to see. Though my husband was called home to Heaven several years ago, last summer our youngest boy was finally old enough to go and I decided to take them as a legacy from their father.

Though I was prepared to "rough it," I was pleasantly surprised. The sleeping bags were soft and the food better than home. Both the staff and fellow travelers were kind and loving, watching out for the boys and me. Before coming on the trip, I had little knowledge of geology but they taught us a ton of information in lectures, evening campsite chats, and one on one. At first the information was a little overwhelming, but by the end of the trip, I could name and often identify the various layers of the Grand Canyon.  I understood a myriad of scientific evidences that support Creation and Noah's flood. Not only did I learn a lot but the Canyon captured my heart. The beauty and magnificence was like a cathedral surrounding me and lifting my eyes up to my Creator. Though the hiking, exploring, discovering,  jumping off waterfalls, studying science and the Bible were all wonderful, my most favorite memory was worshipping God together as we sang praises looking out at the Colorado River and up at the massive canyon walls with their rainbow of color.

Towards the end of our trip, we were challenged to share what we learned back home. Several examples of how individuals had started their own "Creation ministries" were given. As a physician and single Mom with two teenagers, I could not imagine finding time to fit much new in my schedule. I decided not to worry about it but to believe that God could and would use this experience for His glory. I did not have to worry.

When I got back I was so excited I began telling everyone what I learned. They were all interested and my Sunday school class asked me to give a talk. Several people jumped in, supplying the necessary computer skills and equipment to create a one hour PowerPoint talk. I've personally shared the talk at least eight times and others have used my material with their own Bible study groups. I also enjoy scrapbooking. With over 700 pictures to arrange, I decided the best way to present both the information I learned and a pictorial narrative of our trip was to make two scrapbooks. In one I displayed my talk with the pictures along side the text.  The other is our day by day adventure. I took them to work with me and left them in the room where the drug representatives wait to catch me between patients. They often have a long wait and appreciate something to read. Everyone has been amazed at the trip and comment how there is so much they had never heard. This has opened up several opportunities to share about my wonderful God and His Creation. My mother-in-law dubbed it my "Scrapbook ministry."  Isn't God Faithful!

Research:  The truth continues to be born out by the research being done by those willing to look at the world through the framework of Scripture and a Biblical worldview.  ICR's RATE project, likely the largest Biblically-based research project ever, has and will continue to bring the truth to light.  For more information on the project and the continued work, click on RATE.

Bill Hoesch, a geologist with ICR, wrote a very good article on the Flood recently.  It is worth a read; click ARTICLE to read it online
